How to Make Bunny Face DIY Sugar Scrub Bars
With just a few simple ingredients and minimal time, you can make homemade sugar scrub bars. They make a perfect diy gift for adults and kids alike!
Supplies:
-
- 2 cubes of melt and pour soap base (1 inch x 1 inch)
-
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ tsp pink mica powder
-
- Bunny ice cube tray/soap mold from Dollar Tree
- Large microwave safe measuring cup with spout
- Wooden craft stick for stirring
Instructions:
- First, place your soap base in a measuring cup. You want to make sure your measuring cup is microwave safe. Microwave the soap for about 30 seconds until melted, then stir well.
- Then add the sugar, olive oil, and mica powder to the measuring cup. Stir until well mixed. You may need to reheat the mixture for about 10 seconds so that it becomes liquid again.
- Pour the liquid into your molds – I used Dollar Store Bunny Face molds for mine. Let the set for about 20 minutes. Then gently remove from your mold. You can store them in an airtight container for about 6 months.
Sugar vs Salt
We all know that consuming excess sugar and salt is pretty bad for our overall health. It doesn’t matter which trendy diet you are following; they all pretty much say sugar is bad and low sodium is the way to go.
But, if you didn’t know, both sugar and salt can have amazing benefits for your skin. Sugar is great for exfoliating and moisturizing your skin. Salt has great detoxifying properties that invigorates the skin, promoting circulation and healthy skin cells.
When using in a scrub though, I recommend sticking with sugar. Sugar granules are rounder than salt granules, which makes them less abrasive on your skin. Plus if you happen to have any skin abrasions, the sugar will be gentler – salt will sting. The sharp angles of salt do make for a stronger exfoliant, if that’s what you are looking for.
What is Mica Powder?
If you are new to the diy bath products world, you may have never heard of Mica before, so here’s a quick lesson: Mica is a natural stone mineral that has shiny flakes. When it is ground into a powder, you end up with something much like a very fine glitter. This creates that beautiful, natural shimmer you see a lot in beauty products and since it is a natural product it is safe to use on just about any skin type.
