Ingredients:
- 7 ozs milk chocolate wafers
- 6 tbsp hot cocoa
- 2 shots Irish cream liquor
- green sprinkles
Instructions:
- Place a large plate into the freezer. Place the chocolate wafers into a microwave safe bowl and heat in the microwave in 30 second intervals, until fully melted. Stir well between each heating session. Using a spoon or large pastry brush, coat each of the mold cavities with the melted chocolate. Place into the freezer for 5 minutes, and repeat to add another coat of melted chocolate, then chill for an additional 5 minutes.
- While the chocolate is hardening in the freezer, mix together the Irish Cream liquor and cocoa mix. Stir well. Remove the plate and chocolate coated mold from the freezer. Remove chocolate coated half spheres from mold and place onto the chilled plate. Heat a small plate in the microwave for 2 minutes.
- Place one chocolate coated half sphere upside down on the heated plate and move around to slightly melt the rim. Add about 1.5 tablespoons of the Irish Cream and cocoa mixture to the half sphere. Place another chocolate coated half sphere upside down on the plate and move around to melt the rim, rubbing it around in the excess melted chocolate on the plate.
- Stick that half sphere on top of the other, and very gently secure the two together. *They should go together no problem, but if you do have an issue, simply rub a little extra melted chocolate along the seam where there is a gap. Pour remaining melted chocolate into a pastry bag or ziplock bag and heat in 30 second increments until fully melted, massaging the bag between each heat session. Once melted, cut off the tip of the bag and drizzle melted chocolate on top of the hot cocoa bombs in a back and forth motion. Add sprinkles. To use, place the Irish Cream Hot Cocoa Bomb in a mug and pour 6 oz of hot milk or water over it, stir and enjoy!
What Exactly is a Hot Cocoa Bomb?
This delicious treat is typically made up of a decorated hollow chocolate shell that is filled with hot cocoa mix, flavorings if desired, and then packed with mini marshmallows. You pour hot milk or water over the top of a hot cocoa bomb in a mug, melting away the chocolate and ending with a cup of cocoa and marshmallows. This confection was invented in 2019 and rocketed to popularity thanks to TikTok.
Can I Use The Same Mold I Use to Make Bath Bombs to also Make Hot Cocoa Bombs?
If you make homemade bath bombs, you can also use that same mold to make these hot cocoa bombs. You just want to make sure that the mold is exceptionally clean and has no soap or fragrance residue stuck to it.
One thing to consider in using a mold for both – if you use glitter in your bath bombs, you probably would want to get a separate mold for the hot chocolate bombs. It’s so hard to get glitter really clean from things so I would be concerned in using the same bomb and be certain there are no glitter pieces left over, especially if the glitter is not edible.
Can I Make Irish cream Hot Cocoa Bombs Without the Alcohol?
Of course! Since the inside of the cocoa bomb would just be hot chocolate mix without anything else, I would recommend adding in some mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, or even crushed up peppermints.
