In case you’ve been living under a rock, the 80s are back, baby! Oh yes, that era of short running shorts, three channels on TV and feathered hair is having a resurgence.

KBShimmer Mix It Up Nail Polish Collection

KBShimmer, the fab indie nail polish brand, has released a new 7 piece collection called Mix It UP that’s dedicated to that iconic decade.

Now, neons have been having a moment in fashion and beauty for a little while, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. This nail collection is all crème finish colors that are neon and a fab black glitter shape topper. These are the colors of your Lisa Frank fever dream.

Mix It Up Nail Polish Shades

Here’s a rundown of the nail polish colors included in KBShimmer’s Mix It Up collection.

Net Gains – A stunning totally wearable violet purple crème nail polish.  This is definitely one you’re going to reach for again and again.

Mix It Up – Nothing says the 1980s and early 1990s like neon pink. Mix it Up is that iconic neon pink color.

Totally Outrageous – This is totally a neon red shade that pulls orange.

Let’s Bounce – A neon acid chartreuse yellow shade, which is the new non neutral neutral of 2024 and beyond.  You definitely want to grab this, as you’ll be seeing this shade everywhere for the next couple of years.

Roll on By – Can you even talk about the 1980s without mentioning teal?  This one leans a little more green and is so fab. AS a blue-green nail polish lover, it goes straight to the top.

To The Max – This is a gorgeous cornflower blue crème. It’s very wearable, and feels like a neon denim blue.

Scratch That – This is a topper filled with black glitter shapes like shreds, hex, stars, and dots in varying sizes. It’s the perfect addition to this 80s throwback set.

Our Thoughts

Most of these colors provided a solid color in two coats. Because they’re crème finishes, they give that traditional opaque color that we think of when people say nail polish. Some look a little matte, and you’ll want a top coat to get that really good glossy shine.

These polishes from the Mix It Up collection wear nicely. I didn’t take any special care when testing these polishes, and kind of did a quickie skittles manicure. Most colors wore about 5 days before they started really looking chippy and peeling.

When I say I didn’t take any special care, I mean I didn’t even use base coat or a top coat. Just two coats of the nail polish. The horror! I imagine if you used better techniques, you might get even longer wear.
