You’ll Wish Someone Told You to Buy These Sooner (New Parent Edition)

Parenthood. It’s the greatest joy and the greatest struggle combined in one. There have been so many books coming out in recent years about “How to be a good parent.” “How to make your toddler a genius,” and yet, no single tutorial can combat the stress that nurturing a tiny human casts on new parents. This probably won’t either, but learning more about the little one’s needs is always marked as a success. Being a good parent isn’t a destination; it’s a journey! And our list comes in handy for the next step in this amazing journey.

1. Wipe Warmers

They might sound like a luxury, but picture this. It’s the middle of the night, so it’s impossible to tell the difference between a normal diaper change and a full-blown baby meltdown. And a cold wipe to a fussy baby’s skin? It’s the recipe for disaster! A wipe warmer heats up those cold fibers and saves your sanity in the process.

2. Velcro Swaddles

Traditional swaddling at 3 a.m. is a guaranteed wrestling match. Every new parent is groaning internally, thinking about having to swaddle their baby and make sure they don’t escape, which they most often do, before they start crying. Velcro swaddles have come to the rescue. They keep your baby secure, reduce the startle reflex, and are just about escape-proof.

3. Sound Machines

They work like magic. Did you know white noise mimics the sound the baby hears in the womb? This little trick soothes them instantly. Besides, it can easily drown out startling noises like doorbells, barking dogs or clashing pans in the kitchen.

4. Portable Changing Pad

Babies don’t know they’re supposed to wait for an opportune time to need a change. They probably don’t care much either. A foldable, wipeable changing pad is a lifesaver for when your newborn does as nature dictates. It definitely saves your car, your couch, or really, anywhere the baby is put.

5. Fridge Labels

Pumped milk, baby food, frozen meals. You know what they say about “mom brains.” Coping with a high-stress environment, such as one with a new baby growing, can and will lead to exhaustion. Mental fog is just another side effect of parenthood. So labeling your goods means your future self will thank you.

6. Haakaa Pump

A Haakaa pump might just be the ultimate weapon for breastfeeding moms. Without the cords and the noise, this pump gets the ounces which would have otherwise been lost to a breast pad. It’s easy to clean and very budget-friendly! A perfect little tool saving you from another unnecessary headache.

7. Onesies With Zippers

Seeing to line up a dozen tiny snaps multiple times a day is just cruel. The zip-up onesies are the way to go, from newborn to toddler. They’re not to be messed with! Make sure to look for soft, stretchy fabrics and avoid anything with buttons like the plague. Zippers are the ultimate timesaver.

8. Diaper Caddy

Stock one in every room. Have them full with diapers, wipes, cream, and burp cloths. With a diaper caddy, you’re running around the house trying to find your baby’s essentials in times of crisis will be a thing of the past. The ultimate parenting toolkit, at an arm’s reach!

9. Pacifier Clips

Babies throw everything, and that includes pacifiers. These little clips attach to the baby’s clothes so the pacifier won’t end up contaminated on the floor. This is incredibly useful in public settings and saves you the emergency run for pacis.

10. Nursing Pillow

Nursing pillows go beyond just helping you with the breastfeeding posture. They’re perfect for a number of scenarios, like bottle feeding, propping up your baby, tummy time, and early sitting postures. You’ll find new uses for them every week!

11. Silicone Bibs

Silicone bibs are superior to fabric bibs. For one, they don’t stain or soak through. But more so, they have a built-in food catcher! Perfect for solid foods, brilliant for less laundry and frustration. When traveling, a silicone bib becomes essential.

12. Bottle Drying Rack

Ever felt like your sink is turning into a graveyard? Amongst bottles, breast pumps, and pacifiers, you barely have any space left. A bottle drying rack ensures everything is kept organized and sanitary. Plus, many are very aesthetically pleasing, as they come in modern designs!

13. Baby Medicine Kit

So, your baby is screaming in the middle of the night while you’re fumbling for the nasal aspirator. A horror show. But a well-stocked medicine kit includes gas drops, Tylenol, saline spray, and a digital thermometer at its most basic level. It’s peace of mind in one box. Being prepared is the ultimate parenting superpower.

14. Wearable Baby Towels

A wet and wiggly baby is a nightmare. Hence, a wearable, apron-style towel quickly comes to the rescue. It allows you to scoop the little one straight from the tub for a cuddle session. Besides, they’re too adorable to miss!

15. Baby Nail Trimmers

Cutting a baby’s nails must be on the top ten list for worst fears. The emotional, mental, and physical toll all accumulate for this one. But an electric nail trimmer gently files the nail instead of cutting it, which soothes the baby immediately. They’re quick and painless, and the speed can be adjusted!

16. Blackout Curtains

They mean business, aka guaranteed quality naps. Blackout curtains create a calming environment, which helps regulate your baby’s sleep cycle. They’re a lifesaver during the summer months when the sun seems to just refuse to go down. Better naps? Better nighttime sleep.

17. Fitting Baby Wrap

Hands-free bonding time is a must. A perfectly fitted baby wrap allows you to spend time with your little one while freeing your hands. Should you be going on a walk or wrapping up house chores, this tool is pure convenience.

18. Baby Bouncer

New parents need their breaks too, and often. A bouncer that mimics the motion of rocking without you constantly having to use your hands is heaven-sent. Your arms deserve a break, and your baby deserves a comforting place to relax in.

19. Journaling Is The Ultimate Tool

Feeds, naps, and diapers. Milestones. Keeping track of the passage of time is overwhelming on its own. A cute little journal, or even a baby-tracking app, will help you celebrate your treasure while giving you a head start on spotting patterns. You’ll definitely cherish all these memories later.
