Beyond The Buzz – Youtube

The Met Gala has always been a spectacle of fashion extremes—remember Jared Leto’s severed head in 2019 or Kim Kardashian’s full-body black morph suit in 2021? This year, fashion’s biggest night somehow raised the bar.

With a $75,000 ticket price and a theme—“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”—that celebrated Black dandyism, the 2025 Met Gala fused personal identity with boundary-breaking style. It also marked the first menswear-centered exhibit since 2003.

From hand-beaded suits to wearable art installations, celebrities arrived not just to impress, but to astonish—and sometimes confuse. The blue carpet on May 5 wasn’t just a showcase of glamour; it was a spectacle of ambition, legacy, and sheer extravagance. Here are nine of the wildest and most expensive looks.

1. Pharrell Williams in Louis Vuitton

X -Louis Vuitton

Pharrell Williams made a commanding entrance as co-chair, dressed in a custom Louis Vuitton double-breasted blazer shimmering with an ocean of pearls. Designed under his own creative direction, the piece exuded unmatched craftsmanship with meticulous embroidery and opulent materials.

Sources estimated the ensemble’s worth at over $700,000, placing it among the evening’s most extravagant. It wasn’t just fashion—it was wearable art. With every pearl reflecting the light, Pharrell’s look symbolized the height of Met Gala opulence and innovation, a true celebration of elite couture design at its most excessive.

2. Rihanna in Marc Jacobs

X – Denisa

Rihanna turned heads in a custom Marc Jacobs creation that fused old-school tailoring with daring modern flair. Her pinstripe corseted gown, cropped wool jacket, and oversized fedora projected power, confidence, and style—all while revealing her third pregnancy in signature show-stopping fashion.

The couture nature of the outfit, paired with Rihanna’s unparalleled influence, pushed its estimated value past $500,000. While no dollar figure could truly capture its impact, the richness of construction, intricate details, and her presence made the look one of the most iconic and luxurious moments of the night.

3. Khaby Lame in Custom BOSS with Pocket Watch Detail

Facebook – Fubiz

Khaby Lame turned heads in a custom BOSS suit that blended sharp European tailoring with powerful cultural nods. The standout feature? Pocket watches sourced from flea markets, cleverly stitched into the outfit as symbols of elegance and punctuality—key traits of classic dandyism. For a man who rose to fame with wordless critiques of inefficiency, it was the perfect metaphor: time matters.

The look, curated by BOSS Creative Director Marco Falcioni, honored both tradition and TikTok—“the clock app”—making it one of the most thoughtful interpretations of the night. Khaby didn’t just show up. He showed how fashion speaks—without ever saying a word.

4. Cole Escola’s Surreal Rhubarb-and-Custard Fantasy

X – Fashion

Cole Escola channeled pure chaos on the Met Gala carpet, serving a look equal parts high fashion and haunted fever dream. With slicked hair sculpted into a horn-like point and eye makeup straight out of A Clockwork Orange, the eccentric entrance was already unforgettable.

But then came the outfit: a rhubarb-and-custard-hued suit with floral silk detailing and oversized pink lapels that screamed vintage candy shop meets nightmare cabaret. Bold? Definitely. Soothing? Not quite. But in a night full of precision tailoring, Cole’s wild, surrealist flair offered a jolt of theatrical energy—and maybe a few flashbacks to childhood sweets.

5. André 3000 and the Grand Piano Statement

X – JustFreshKicks

André 3000 has never been one to blend in, and his Met Gala 2025 appearance proved it once again. Dressed in a sleek, well-tailored suit that oozed understated elegance, he might have gone under the radar—if not for the full-sized grand piano strapped to his back. Yes, really.

While the base outfit was sharp and refined, the surreal piano accessory stole the spotlight, turning heads and sparking memes instantly. Whether symbolic of musical genius or just delightfully absurd, it was peak André: eccentric, unexpected, and impossible to ignore. Subtle? Never. Memorable? Absolutely. Mission accomplished, Mr. 3000.

6. Tracee Ellis Ross in Voluminous Marc Jacobs Pink

X – the.vibe

Tracee Ellis Ross made a dazzling entrance in a voluminous pink Marc Jacobs jumpsuit, cinched with a giant sash and topped with a wide-brimmed dusty-rose hat by Stephen Jones. The joyful ensemble oozed animated elegance, blending bold tailoring with playful artistry. Her maroon blazer and crimson handkerchief added depth, while Tracee’s signature flair lit up the carpet.

Following her mother Diana Ross’s legendary appearance earlier that night, Tracee called her own look “just a little something”—but it was anything but subtle. From silhouette to sass, the outfit was a celebration of Black style, legacy, and unstoppable Ross family glamour.

7. Diana Ross in a Dramatic Cape

X – Complex Style

Diana Ross made a grand return to the Met Gala in unforgettable fashion, wearing a sparkling dress with an 18-foot train embroidered with the names of her children and grandchildren. The look required ten men to lift the train as she ascended the iconic Met steps, amplifying its already monumental impact.

Draped in a colossal white cape, she radiated old-Hollywood drama and timeless diva energy. Though no official price was assigned, the ensemble was widely described as “priceless.” Its emotional detail, scale, and craftsmanship embodied legacy and luxury, marking Ross’s appearance as one of the night’s most legendary.

8. Teyana Taylor in Ruth E. Carter

X – Yonny

Teyana Taylor commanded attention in a Victorian-inspired ensemble by Oscar-winner Ruth E. Carter. The three-piece look featured a red cape, sharp tailoring, a top hat, gloves, a cane, and towering platform shoes—a bold homage to historic Black dandyism.

While no estimate was publicly confirmed, the visual grandeur and theatrical detail spoke volumes about its likely value. Taylor’s outfit wasn’t just fashion—it was narrative, character, and tribute. The level of detail, from fabric choice to accessories, showcased couture-level design that dared to provoke and captivate in equal measure.

9. Laura Harrier in Gap Studio by Zac Posen

X – Linda

Laura Harrier redefined high fashion with a twist in a custom Gap Studio look by Zac Posen. What began as classic menswear was transformed into runway drama through exaggerated sleeves, a cinched waist, and ultra-wide-leg silk satin pants, all topped with a denim vest.

The juxtaposition of humble fabrics with couture construction made this ensemble one of the night’s most imaginative. No official price was confirmed, but the reinvention of casualwear into luxury evening attire offered a clear message: with the right vision, even basics can become breathtaking.
