Over 67K Cases of Deodorant Sold at Walmart and Amazon Recalled Over Manufacturing Issue

We know, this might not be as shocking as Walmart and Amazon believes it to be. According to the FDA, a massive recall of Power Stick products was triggered on July 10th. More than 67,000 cases, which have been sold at stores like Walmart, Amazon, and Dollar Tree, are affected by this recall. Over the years, we’ve heard of products being pulled off shelves for various reasons. So, what is it this time? Was it a mistake, or a deeper issue with the manufacturing process? Let’s explore.

Items to watch out for

To be exact, three products in the Power Stick catalog were included in the recall. 21,265 cases of Power Stick for Her Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant have been recalled, along with 22,482 cases of Power Stick Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant. 23,467 cases of Power Stick Original Nourishing Invisible Protection Roll-On Antiperspirant Deodorant are also part of the recall.

Has The Manufacturing Company Spoken Yet?

So what has A.P. Deauville, LLC said about this issue at this point? You’ll have to wait a bit because, to date, the company has not publicly commented on their decision to implement the recall. For what it’s worth, their website states this guarantee: “We obsess over every part of our products from the color of the barrels to making sure the fragrances are on trend and last long. Our antiperspirant/deo sticks and shower products are manufactured in our FDA regulated factory.”

What Triggered This Recall

The bigger question is, why are these Power Stick items being pulled from shelves? According to an enforcement report published by the FDA, the recall was triggered by “deviations” from Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) regulations, which serve to impose standards on the processing and packing of drug products. The FDA keeps a close eye on the implementation of CGMP regulations to make sure that your body isn’t harmed by the ingredients within the products you purchase.

Though the FDA has disclosed that the Power Stick recall was related to manufacturing, the government agency did not offer further details on the violations committed by the recalled items. Still, A.P. Deauville, LLC has voluntarily initiated the recall of the Power Stick products that had already been shipped nationwide. (That’s an awful lot of deodorants!) This is not the first time that deodorant products have caused a stir because of manufacturing issues. Four years ago, 30 different brands of antiperspirant and deodorant body sprays were cited in a citizen’s petition, because they allegedly contained benzene, which has been known to cause cancer.

Do these variants ring a bell? A word to the wise: Stop using these products for now. Return them to the retailer where you made your purchase, and get in touch with A.P. Deauville, LLC, which is Power Stick’s manufacturing company. The Easton, Pennsylvania-based company has owned the Power Stick brand for 20 years after purchasing it from none other than Unilever.

The Safety Risks Posed By Deodorants

Reddit – ucawhep

The thing is, even innocent-looking deodorants and antiperspirants can pose a risk to your health. A 2016 TIME article enumerated five “ingredients of concern” that we’ve been smearing on our armpits all this time. These ingredients include parabens and aluminum, both of which have been linked to cancer by some studies.

There are other deodorant ingredients that should give you pause. The fragrance component can irritate your skin and cause allergies. Triclosan could pose a risk to the day-to-day activities of your genes. And don’t even get us started with phthalates, which have been linked to impaired reproductive health in men and compromised fetal development in pregnant women, as well as lower IQ and higher asthma rates.

It Pays To Be Smart

What does this mean? Before you chuck things into your grocery cart (whether it’s a physical or a digital one), make sure that you know the essential details of those products! Find out the ingredients and look into their possible side effects. It doesn’t matter whether you’re consuming that product or rolling it onto your skin. Harmful products will, of course, cause harm.

Don’t just stop there. According to Sabina Wizemann of the Good Housekeeping Institute, you might as well check out the background of the manufacturing company as well. “When evaluating a brand’s reputation, consumers should consider its history, ownership, recall history, safety and regulatory compliance, as well as ingredient transparency and disclosures of clinical studies,” Wizemann said in a March 2025 article.

Netizens Express Their Worries Over The Recall

On social media, the Power Stick recall has generated thousands of comments. While some netizens have gone for a less-than-serious tone (with one netizen wondering “Will my armpits shrivel & fall off?”), others decided to put on their thinking caps. One Facebook user commented, “cGMP can mean any number of deviations from their specific manufacturing process. We need to know what.”

An Abundance Of Concerning Recalls

Other netizens have pointed out how many consumer items have been recalled as of late. This year, the FDA has documented product recalls for the following drug products: various tablets, dietary supplements, and even baby teething swabs. (Children need even more assistance when it comes to safety. So, make sure to read those product labels!)

On top of that, the recalls haven’t been limited to food and drug items. In the month of July alone, we’ve seen scented highlighters, steamers, power banks, and e-bikes getting flagged for the various safety risks that they pose. Here’s one seemingly harmless item that’s getting recalled: a Jeriflyer eight-inch pool drain cover. Don’t let the small dimensions fool you, as this product has been found to be in violation of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act.

Don’t Be A Statistic

Linkedin – National Safety Council – Nebraska Chapter

While worrying about deodorants and pool covers appears to be much ado about nothing, an abundance of caution can go a long way in preventing unwanted situations. According to the National Safety Council, a nonprofit safety advocate, around 12.7 million people in the U.S. received emergency room treatment due to consumer product-related injuries. No one wants to add to this statistic in 2025.

So, realizing all this, deodorant and antiperspirant users will have to be more vigilant before they apply anything to their bare skin. More than any other cosmetic product on the market, the best thing to put on right now is an extra layer of caution. Now that’ll stick.
