Popping the question to your special someone is definitely one of the most important moments of your life. But it can also be kind of predictable. So why not spice it up a bit and make it unforgettable for both of you? Some people have taken proposing to the next level. From withstanding extreme weather conditions to becoming astronauts for a day, here are some of the craziest wedding proposals to take inspiration from, or just have fun reading.
1. The Talking Ring

In 2005 British artist Luke Jerram decided to let the engagement ring do the talking. After working with a jeweller and a vinyl record manufacturer, he crafted a special ring for his partner Shelina with a 20-second recording etched onto its surface saying “Shelina, I’ll love you forever. Marry me!”. Playing it on a miniature record player, Luke popped the question while on a hot air balloon flying over Bristol. After such a successful engagement, he stepped up his game by creating another ring for the wedding that could project family photos when light passed through it. So high-tech!
2. Will You Marry Me, Princess Peach?

When your girlfriend is obsessed with Super Mario, you have to make a Super Mario themed proposal. This guy, though, took the occasion to the next level, literally, by transforming a room of his house into a Super Mario Bros level, from painting the walls to hanging a question mark box from the ceiling. All his girlfriend April had to do, was bop the box just like in the video game, and there was the ring. The positive response to the proposal was followed by the classic Mario sound effects and even a mini firework show to celebrate the level completion!
3. One Hit Proposal

Combining his girlfriend’s love for boy bands and his experience as an ex-band member, Dean got a little too creative and casually made a music video to pop the question. He formed a fake band, wrote a song and filmed it like a professional with dance moves and everything! When he played the video to his girlfriend and all of their friends, the reactions were priceless and she of course said yes. Who wouldn’t marry their idol?
4. Permanent Love

Tattoo artist Vinny Capaldo-Smith had something different in mind for expressing his everlasting love to his girlfriend Brooke Wodark. The idea was for her to ink him a small heart on his ankle. But little did she know, Vinny had secretly gotten another tattoo on his thigh the day before: a cute drawing of the couple holding a balloon, followed by the big question and two boxes with “yes” and “no” underneath it for Brooke to check. At first she didn’t believe it was real, but after realising it she drew a red X in the “yes” box while crying tears of joy. And the cutest part is that the drawing was actually made by Brooke one dinner night on a tablecloth! Talk about being thoughtful.
5. And They Lived Happily Ever After

This couple had been bonding over books since day one. So what better way to propose than popping the question through a book? That’s exactly what this romantic guy did. He found a hardcover of the first novel that sparked the conversation with his girlfriend online and had a heart hollowed in the middle of it, with a ribbon holding a ring tied inside it. So on his girlfriend’s birthday, he took her for a “book shopping spree” at their favorite bookstore. He had already asked the staff to place the custom book on a shelf labeled “Special Edition”. What he didn’t expect was his girlfriend’s first reaction when she opened the book: “They ruined it!”. That was until she saw the ring of course. To her surprise, he dropped to one knee and she obviously said yes.
6. Love Fears Nothing

Matt Mitchell took the concept of popping the question to new extremes, by proposing to his girlfriend Becky Patel in front of a raging tornado in Arnett, Oklahoma. The couple had met during a storm-chasing tour, so it was only fitting for Matt to propose in such a setting. With the twister spinning furiously in the distance, he knelt down before Becky and shouted “I love you, baby”. Becky started jumping with excitement making the answer obvious. She later shared the precious moment on instagram and the “epic proposal” as she called it, became viral in no time.
7. Life Is A Roller Coaster

The last thing you would expect when you’re spending the day at an amusement park is a proposal. That’s exactly why Lawrence Key decided to pop the question while on a ride, in the most unexpected way.
He got his friends to hold pieces of paper reading out the phrase “Will you marry me?” with an arrow pointing to his girlfriend Sophie Stock who was sitting at the front of the flume. She was told to not look behind her, so they could hold the pieces of paper up at the perfect time for the camera to capture the moment. When they climbed off the ride, they covered Sophie’s eyes until Lawrence revealed the photo with the question on display. Overwhelmed with emotions Sophie said yes, making the picture the ultimate amusement park souvenir.
8. Proposing Soon To A Theater Near You

Claire thought she was about to watch the new fantasy blockbuster “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” but her boyfriend Dougie had other plans. Working with a local film producer, he created a four-minute video of him running through the countryside towards the cinema where Claire and her friends had decided to go. So you can imagine her surprise when Dougie appeared on the big screen instead of the actual movie. When the clip ended, he appeared in the cinema and proposed to Claire in front of the audience. To everyone’s relief, she accepted in tears.
9. Out Of This World

Alexander Loucopoulos decided to take his love to new heights. In 2007 he proposed to his girlfriend Graciela aboard a 90-minute zero gravity flight, arranged by Space Adventures of Virginia. While floating in the air, Alexander carefully pulled out the ring, so it didn’t drift off, and popped the big question to Graciela who said yes in amazement. The $3,500 trip was definitely worth it, as the couple took off single but landed engaged.
